I think that EcoCar will be the future of car industry and this is also due to the environmental-oriented government policies that are becoming more sensitive to the problem of pollution and exploitation of the earth. Moreover I think that the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States, with his ideas "eco-friendly", could have affected the orientation of car-making companies in producing Eco-Cars.

As well known nowadays, anything directly or indirectly related to environmental protection is good thing that deserves appreciated and encouraged anytime. Generally, the situation has derived from the fear of human world in the planet where natural resource and living environment are going to be depleted upon the unrenewability. So I think that's why Thailand could be ambitious about their grand expectation of production of Eco-car up to 2 million by 2012.

In the slides, we clearly find out there're three factors mattering to people's eyeballs, including fuel-efficiency, environmentally friendly, and safety.

Firstly, the world starts more caring about most of these crude oil which is geographically exclusive and has been depleting. Developed industrial countries expect to lessen the dependency of imported oil, especially since the global credit crunch, which we can realize from the new strategy launched by Obama Administration.

In addition, with the global development of industrial activities accompanied by the more and more emerging markets such as G4(China,India,Brazil,Russia), the environmentally fragile issue has become more sensitive to world's leaders in G20 who have almost accounted for over 70-80% of world's GDP. It's worth noting that European Union is alway the most positive propellor and catalyst concerning on global environment, which probably helps to explain why EU is the most important exporting market for Eco-Car to be produced in Thailand.

There are a couple of prospects we could envision. Japanese auto makers will keep maintaining the competitive foothold in Eco industry in future based on the long-term strategy of first move. Furthermore, the whole auto manufacturing pattern will face a significant shift to Eco-car along with an enormous amount of concept cars to be materilized soon and increasing awareness of saving energy and environmental concerns in public.

Of course, there is still space for non-Eco car makers since Eco car has set out a series of requirements like over specifications and relatively higher price compared to normal/small car, which makes Eco-car not competitive enough to satisfy low-end market and part of mid/high-end markets.
